The Benefits of Prolotherapy

What is Prolotherapy?
Prolotherapy, short for “Proliferative Therapy,” is a trending therapy for musculoskeletal injuries and chronic joint pain. The name may be hard to pronounce, but it’s actually a rather simple technique to help strengthen your ligaments and joints naturally. The main component: SUGAR.
Sugar gets a bad reputation sometimes – it is a well-known inflammatory agent. But in this case, we are using sugar’s function to intentionally cause inflammation in your joints and tissues, for a brief period of time. When there is inflammation in the body, the immune system is activated to the area to stimulate the healing process.
How Does Prolotherapy Work?
SO, using prolotherapy (dextrose sugar) and injecting it into the area of damage will actually help repair the tissue. During tissue repair, however, scarring occurs – but again, this is actually in our favor! The ligament will scar, which will cause tightening of the tissue, and ultimately increased strength for that muscle.
Using the body’s capacity to heal itself – that’s Naturopathic Medicine at its finest. Let’s rejuvenate your joints! To determine if you are a good candidate for prolotherapy, schedule a free 15 minute consult with us.
